prepped Scirocco Rally Car for sale....<SOLD!> 1980 Volkswagen Scirocco
Nationaly competitive Rallycross car in M2 class.
I’ve had this car a while. It has been run in RallyCross, RallySprints, Autocross, Trackdays, Time Trials, Hillclimbs, Stage Rallies, driven on the street, Dragraced, streetraced, a little of everything. You can concentrate on one thing or do several things with it.
* It is not in any way original or stock. Please Do not make the assumption that just because it’s street legal (has to be for rallies) that you would want to drive it to work everyday. There WILL be issues from time to time and stuff breaks, you will need to work on it from time to time… if that scares you then quit reading. J
Car is a logbooked SCCA Stage Rally car. No more SCCA rallies but is legal for NASA and Rally America. Needs a co-driver seat and belts to be ready for stagerally. Annual is current. 8-point cage, through –firewall- to- strut- tower- braces. Cage built personally by Eric VanCleef.
Motor swap car: 1990 VW G-60 Supercharged 1.8- 168hp, motor is bone stock and tight…a BahnBrenner chip/cam/pulley package and you would get 200hp pretty easily. The whole Corrado fuse box and ECU was moved into car w/motor. It had plenty o’ power for me and what I’ve been doing with it so I decided to keep it more reliable. Supercharger is healthy and boost is stock 7psi. It has beaten a stock 1.8Tslushbox at the dragstrip….Runs a 9.9ish in the 1/8.
Tranny- The diff blew at the last rallycross, deal will include another 020 gearbox installed. Shifter is a custom short-throw/Rod-end setup. Axles are good.
Suspension- H&R Springs and BOGE turbogas struts= nothing fancy but it works. New control arms with good bushings, new front hubs. Plates welded in to beef up the strut towers in the front. Lots of extra bits and pieces. Rear sway bar- lower, top is tied by rollcage. Front lower swaybar and lower strut bar. No upper front strutbar needed.
Body: This is the not-so-great thing about the car. The floorboards are very strong (and a bit heavy) but butt-ugly. I would strongly suggest re-doing them. The car has been wrecked in the front passenger corner at a rally…pulled back straight as possible (plus new fender.hood). Hood has holes drilled for the installed hoodpins. I have an extra hood or three. I have a couple extra doors as well. The doors have been stripped but not gutted. The rear hatch is de-badged, de-locked, shaved, gutted, and pinned= -60+lbs. The windshield is good- no cracks. I put one on a year or two ago with a new $80 seal. Rear quarter windows and rear windows replaced with Lexan= that shaved a bunch of weight. I have an extra hatch with glass if you want to go back to reg hatch with glass. Interior is spartan with very little in it. No carpet, no dash, no sound-deadening. Battery is in the back securely fastened in a box. Corrado gauge cluster sans dash. Formuling steering wheel. Car is pretty loud inside. Body is rough- there’s a new 2-tone paintjob that needs to be buffed out. There’s some rust in the back corners that’s totally fixable. I’ll show you ALL the bad spots- I’m not hiding anything.
Exhaust- from the euro-dual-outlet manifold back is all new- custom downpipe by Brett at SMR and 2.5 mandrel bends back to a muffler that sounds good and is not too loud. Cat is, uh, “freely flowing”. No ricer tips, sorry.
Wheels- What do you want? I have teardrops, BBS, Corrado Sebring’s, steelies, P-slots, snowflakes, BMW 320i 13” Aluminums.. again price determined by what you want.
Tires- 13” Kumho knobbies for dirt, set of Hoosier 14’s, several Falken Azenis, plus a set or two of usable autocrossish tires, some 008’s, etc.
Rally Stuff (most of it req for rallies): tow rope, Terracom intercom ($135) with 2 headsets, Terratrip Rally Computer ($325) Sparco FIA-approved driver’s seat. Seat is legal for any type of known racing event. 5point harness still in date. High-grip alloy pedal covers. Window nets for both sides. Roofvents for driver and co-driver- these are a lifesaver if you’re in a racing suit. $80.00 Rivergate in-car camera mount if you want it. Hella rallymap light. Hella master power switch cut-off. Brand new Bosch fuel pump ($200) Aluminum Front skidplate and small skidplate for fuel pump goes with.
I have tons of Scirocco parts…. You can take it all, most of it, none of it, it’s up to you. I can put you firmly in the Scirocco bizness.
You’d almost have to give me a deposit for me to list everything. Extra light buckets, badges, interior stuff, dash, glass, handles, bumpers, doors, nuts and bolts, brackets, stuff stuff stuff. A smelly, sun-bleached “Team Scirocco” hat and some stale skunky beer as a special bonus.
Clear Title in hand.
Car weighs ~2200 fully dressed for rally.
This car has participated in:
Crow Mountain Hillclimb 2x
Rally Tennessee 2x won Sat and Sunday in M1 class 2006
Cherokee Trails 2002, finished in G2 class (before motor swap)
RACROC Ironman challenge winner 2006
